Balgay Children’s Society is a Charitable Trust based in Dundee. Through its work the Trust aims to promote the sound education and advancement in life of such disadvantaged children and young people. To achieve this Balgay Children’s Society awards grants, generally up to £5,000, to individuals and organisations within the Dundee City local authority area. The Trust meets twice a year in June and December to make decisions on the distribution of its funds.
History
The Society initially carried out its purpose through the operation of (what was latterly known as) Parkview School, Blackness Road, Dundee which was bequeathed by the Society by the Trustees of Harry Warren Scott in 1893. The Society was originally called The Dundee Industrial Schools society and has undergone several name changes over the years with the final change to the current name of Balgay Children's Trust in 1984.
